The Angel Stone, Juliet Dark cover
For Callie McFay, a half-witch/half-fey professor of folklore and Gothic literature, the fight to save the enchanted town of Fairwick, New York, is far from over. After a hostile takeover by the Grove—a sinister group of witches and their cohorts—many of the local fey have been banished or killed, including Callie’s one true love. And in place of the spirit of tolerance and harmony, the new administration at Fairwick College has fostered an air of danger and distrust.
With her unique magical abilities, Callie is the only one who can rescue her friends from exile and restore order to the school—a task that requires her to find the Angel Stone, a legendary talisman of immense power. Propelled on an extraordinary quest back to seventeenth-century Scotland, Callie risks her life to obtain the stone. Yet when she encounters a sexy incarnation of her lost love, she finds the greater risk is to her heart. As the fate of Fairwick hangs in the balance, Callie must make a wrenching choice: reclaim a chance for eternal passion or save everything she holds dear.

Juliet Dark is a pen name for Carol Goodman. Carol Goodman is the author of The Lake of Dead Languages, The Fairwick Chronicles, Watchtower Trilogy (with husband Lee Slonimsky), and the forthcoming young adult Blythewood series. Her work has appeared in such journals as The Greensboro Review, Literal Latt, The Midwest Quarterly, and Other Voices. After graduation from Vassar College, where she majored in Latin, she taught Latin for several years in Austin, Texas. She then received an M.F.A. in fiction from the New School University. Goodman currently teaches writing at SUNY New Paltz and lives with her family in the Hudson Valley.

This book is the third installment in the Fairwick Chronicles. I did not read the first two but was lured by the beautiful cover and the mention that it would be a book for Deborah Harkness lovers. While reading I must say that my curiosity about what happens in the other books grew but I did not experience the feeling I missed some very important details. Which I probably did but I am not aware of now.
Callie obviously has some issues to deal with still but I like her spunk. She is a witty person not afraid to take a stand. I really liked Frank too and as it is mentioned he has played a bigger part in the earlier books I might have to read them.
The story was entertaining. I did feel that the situation that goes in the past could have had more attention. I had hoped for some real history experience there but did not really feel it. It is nice that Callie is still finding out the mysteries behind her own powers and how she is curious about everything and wondering what she can do with it. I would love to spend Halloween in this book!
