Beautiful Maids All in a Row

2 stars

Dr. Iris Ballard’s glory days are behind her, so when Luke Hudson, her former FBI partner and one time lover, asks for help constructing a psychological profile of an elusive serial killer who murders single mothers and dumps their bodies in the woods, Iris turns him away. She just wants to be left alone with her commercials, her German Shepherd, and her vodka. That is, until she gets a peek at the case files.

The description of the crime scenes are very visual. This book should not be read right before bed time or with a weak stomach.
I did not really like Iris. She has obviously been trough something rough and we catch her while she is still trying to recover from that. As it is disclosed what happened it is clear why she is having panic attacks and stopped with the job. She is a bit too rough for my taste.
I enjoyed the murder investigation part of the story. Luke and Iris have a name of solving complicated cases together but I felt it was more Iris her thing than his because I did not really feel Luke in the story apart from him being a protector for Iris. The clues are connected to psychological characteristics in a quick manner. The whole story is very predictable if you watch or read a lot of murder mystery stories but the pace of this book is nice done making it a quick read with a nice puzzle.
I did have a laugh because I had this thought at the beginning of the book where Iris was describing something she was hearing and my first thought was that this person must be the murderer. It was great fun when he did get involved in the investigation.
